Our School
Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School is located on the West Mountain in Hamilton, services a large urban community – our catchment area stretches from Upper Sherman and the Mountain Brow west to the boundary of Ancaster and south towards Glanbrook.
Sir Allan MacNab has a fairly static student population of approximately 1000. Opened in 1969, Sir Allan MacNab is celebrating their 50th anniversary on May 11, 2019.
Known as the Lion’s Pride, MacNab has a rich tradition of academics, athletics, and the arts. High expectations in the classroom and in co-curricular activities allow students to recognize and achieve their full potential. Blessed with a dedicated staff, MacNab students have the opportunity to participate in a broad array of field trips, sports, and clubs. MacNab Recreation Centre, attached to the school, also allows our students to participate in aquatic studies and extracurricular teams such as Boys’ and Girls’ Water Polo teams. Sir Allan MacNab is the home of the Hospitality & Tourism, Health & Wellness and Arts & Culture Specialist High Skills Major Programs.
For more information on these programs, please see MacNab’s website under the Special High Skills Major Programs found under the Student Services tab. We are also home of ArtSMART, a city-wide program that runs in conjunction with Theatre Ancaster during the spring semester. In the fall of each year students may audition to enter the ArtSMART program where they learn not only the acting and singing parts of a musical, but also the enormous number of behind-the-scenes positions which go into making up a successful enterprise. Their curriculum during the semester is geared to the Arts and requires a high degree of dedication to their avocation, the culmination of which allows them to present their musical to elementary schools and to the public.
